25Cr Alloyed cast iron.

~778; ~852   As-quenched : Untempered martensite matrixis difficult to
etch / tint and appears brighter than the matrix that is tempered .

~780Tempered: matrix easy to etch / tint, so the matrix appears to be darker.
Also, A large number of carbide particles precipitated from matrix.

    Photos you seldom see.
AISI 4140, cold forged part.
Recrystalized at ~600C for 30+ min
Note the subgrains in big grains.

Today, 12/31, the last day of 2010, obtained by chance, this wonderful tintingrevealsdetails of graphite nodules.
These graphite nodules look somewhat like the cross section of "Swiss rolls", don't they? 瑞士卷
I am pretty much satisfied with these photos and hope you guys enjoy seeing these photos as well.

~188, ~190Carbide tinted.
~216, ~218,Ferrite tinted, carbide remained white.
